Greece test day

Today we had a test on Greece. The test seemed really easy to me because I studied a lot for this test and I was really prepared. I only felt like there was one question that I was confused on but that was pretty much it. I finished my test pretty quick because it was only 33 multiple choice questions and one map matching section. After everyone had finished their test we got to go on our computer and finish our blogs in class. I really liked the Greece unit it was very interesting to me and I wonder what unit we are going to start next. This was everything we did in Western Civilization class today.

Greece Review

Today in Western Civilization class we reviewed Greece and everything that will be on the test. I think that if I study tonight I will be good for the test because I have been studying my notes everyday since I have known about the test. It seems like the questions will be pretty easy because I have been paying attention in class a lot and taking really good notes to study from. I will also not be in class on friday because I have a field trip. This is everything we did in Western Civilization class today.

Ending of Greece

Today in Western Civilization we finally finished all of the information we needed to know for the test that is this Thursday. Today we learned, Hippias was a tyrant who ruled from 527-510 BCE also his brother was murdered and his rule became harsh. Eventually he was expelled from Athens. In revenge Hippias began working with the persian king Darius 1, helping them invade marathon. Isagoras became archon eponymous. He ostracizes Cleisthenes. In 508 BCE everything became a democracy. This is everything new we learned in Western Civilization class today.

Greece

Today in class we continued taking notes on the powerpoint from Greece. I feel like we are spending so much time on Greece but that is because we are having a big test on it soon. Today I learned that some people thought that Homer never existed and that people heard about these stories through their families and it past down generation through generation. Also we spent a lot of time talking about the Odyssey and we heard a story from it because Mr. Schick read some of it to us. This is all what we did in Western Civilization.

Friday's class

Today was a very fun western Civilization class. Today we got to come up and pretend to be the teacher and teach the lesson. It was very entertaining to watch my classmates pretend to be the teacher because they didn't really know what they were doing. We also had a bathroom talk and how we should not be using the bathroom every class. It got really interesting when Matteo starting teaching the class. This is what we did in class today.

Greece powerpoint

Today in Western Civilization we took notes on the Greece powerpoint and we actually finished the powerpoint today. We most likely will have the test sometime next week. I learned that we have to know where all the seas are located around greece and where crete is and the mediterranean sea. I like learning about Greece because it is very interesting to me. Greece had been my favorite unit so far. Hopefully that I will do good on the test next week because I did very well on the Egypt test.

Greece City States

Today in class Mr. Schick was not here so we had a substitute. We took notes about the Greek city states. For example it said that Greece's city states were called a polis. Also city states were usually on a fortified hilltop called an acropolis citizens gathered up there to discuss city government. Greek city states had many different forms of government such as, a monarchy, aristocracy, and oligarchy. Greek rulers were called tyrants. Later Athenian reformers moved toward a democracy. A noble man named draco took over power later. Draco developed a legal code. Sons of wealthy families received a formal education. When the boys got older they went off to military schools. The first ever olympics were held in Athens Greece. Sparta had the most powerful army in all of Greece. This was a lot of the notes that I took in class today when we had a substitute.

Greece Questions

Greece Questions 1. Vocabulary words     Mycenaean-One of the first groups of people to settle in Greece     Trojan War-A 10 year war between the Mycenaeans and Troy     Dorian-A new group of people moved into the war-torn countryside     Homer-The greatest storyteller who was blind     Epic-Narrative poems written by Homer     Myth-Made up beliefs or stories 3.The impact on the nearness of the sea was that Greece had a huge natural resource which was really good for them because they could use all of that water for their daily needs. 4.The aspects of culture that the Mycenaeans adapted from the Minoans were that they traded with each other, they adapted their writing system, and they influenced their religious practice, art politics, and literature. 5. The Epics were important to the Greeks of the Dorian period because it helped them remember the Trojan War and many other important events in Greek history.

Egypt quiz day

Today in Western Civilization we took a quiz on Egypt and I felt really good about it after because I studied and I knew what it was all about. After we finished the quiz we started to take notes and read about Greece. Mr. Schick already put the grades in and I got a 92 which is great because I only got one question wrong. I am really glad that I still got an A because I want my grade to be an A and hopefully after he grades the blogs from this week I will have an A in this class because I am very close. This is what we did in Western Civilization class today.

Egypt

Today in Western Civilization we talked a lot about mummification and we even watched a video on how it was done. It was very cool to see what the process looks like. We finished the PowerPoint today on Egypt and we have a 75 point quiz on Friday. I don't like how the quizzes are that many points because then it just feels like a test to me. We also talked about how the Nile river is 4,100 miles long making it the worlds longest river. It also flows from south to north. We also learned that Cataracts are rapids in the Nile River. And one last thing is that stone sculptures and interior paintings depicted humans and gods in Egypt. This is everything we did in Western Civilization class today.

Quiz day and more on Egypt

Today in Western Civilization I had to make up the Mesopotamia quiz that everyone took last Wednesday when I was out. I thought that the quiz was pretty easy because half was just matching and the other half was all multiple choice. I think I either got an A or a B on the quiz. Today we continued talking about Egypt and I remember a lot about it because we learned about all of this  from seventh grade. We took notes from the powerpoint in our notebook learning more about Egypt. I learned about the land of the Pharaohs and the Nile River. and Hoe The Nile means Two Lands. Also that egyption astronomers were the first to create a 12 month calendar and a 365 day cycle. This concluded Western Civilization class today.

Monday February 3

Today in Western Civilization we had a catch up day where we just got all caught up if we were out sick all last week like me. Tomorrow I am taking the Mesopotamia quiz along with the other half of the class that was out sick. I think I am pretty much ready for the quiz and I hope that it won't be too hard. Most people said that the quiz wasn't that hard so I am not that worried about it. I just have to go over all of my notes to make sure that I am ready for the quiz tomorrow. I am just going to look over the powerpoint again and get last minute details that I may have missed and look over all of my notes that I already have. I also got a chance to study in class and finish this blog in class and still have extra time.

Absence from class

I was not in class on Thursday because I was sick.
