Greece City States

Today in class Mr. Schick was not here so we had a substitute. We took notes about the Greek city states. For example it said that Greece's city states were called a polis. Also city states were usually on a fortified hilltop called an acropolis citizens gathered up there to discuss city government. Greek city states had many different forms of government such as, a monarchy, aristocracy, and oligarchy. Greek rulers were called tyrants. Later Athenian reformers moved toward a democracy. A noble man named draco took over power later. Draco developed a legal code. Sons of wealthy families received a formal education. When the boys got older they went off to military schools. The first ever olympics were held in Athens Greece. Sparta had the most powerful army in all of Greece. This was a lot of the notes that I took in class today when we had a substitute.
