Today in Human Geography class we finished the power point presentation on Grids and time zones. Today we focused mainly on Longitude. I learned that the lines of longitude are known as meridians. The meridians are all equal in length and they are halves of great circles. We also talked about how Eratosthenes was the first person to ever attempt to draw out a map. We learned about all of the significant parallels of latitude also. We also turned on the lights for the first time in class!! We have a map test tomorrow on North and Central America countries and South America countries.
On Friday's  class we talked about grids. We looked at a power point presentation which included absolute location, relative location, parallels, meridians, latitude and longitude, equator, prime meridian. We learned how absolute location shows you exactly where the place is. We took notes on different locations of the map.
Today in human geo we spent the class fixing up our blogs and comparing two different maps. The World map and Peters World map. The mercator map and peters world map are different. One reason being that the peters world map looks kinda stretched out and distorted while the mercator map looks like a pretty normal map. Maybe the mercator map looks normal to us because thats the basic map we have always seen. The Peters map looks different to us because we have only seen the mercator map and that is what we are all used too. Also the mercator map has a lot of topography while the peters map looks smooth. The Peters world map has all bolded and uppercase letters while the other map does not. The Peters map is most likely the most accurate map out there. It might look weird to us but it is the most accurate.
On Tuesday's human geography class we talked all about Site. Site is the physical character of a place. It includes climate, water, sources, topography, soil, vegetation, latitude, and elevation. Humans have the ability to modify the characteristics of a site. Also we learned how site factors have always been essential in selecting locations for settlements.
Today in human geography class we talked all about Situation. Situation is the location of a place relative to other places. We talked about how when someone from a foreign country comes to Bel air and asks where John Carroll is we would have to specifically describe where the school would be by. We also discussed how most of our things are made overseas because labor over there is very cheap. We compared our notebooks in class saying where our notebooks came from for example most of our classes notebooks came from Vietnam.

Today in class we reviewed the test and got the tests back and I did not do so well. I wish I would have studied more. I did really well with the multiple choice but the other questions I did not do so well. next test or quiz I will study a lot more and take better notes. Hopefully I can get my grade up by the end of the quarter. We also had time in class today to type up our blogs and get them up. I will save my test so that when mid terms come I can use it as a study tool so I can hopefully pass the midterms.
Today in Human Geography class we took a look at three different maps. I noticed that maps A and b had topography which means the have texture to them. Also that they all had a scale and a key. All three maps were different in a way. The states in Map A were all different colors to show the borders. Map C seemed very stretched out and looked kinda funny.
For Tuesdays class I was not here.
Today in human geography class we took a test. I think I did OK on the test but it definitely was not the best tests I have ever taken in my life. I thought the multiple choice questions were very easy because I studied those a lot and the essays were pretty easy to handle. But some of the fill in the blank ones were very difficult for me because I did not remember a lot of them.
Today in class we finished the power point on a message to Garcia. We mainly were talking about socrates. I learned that he worked as a stonemason and that he fought in the Peloponnesian war. Also that his battle field experience might have shaped his view of the world. He was also a teacher. At the end of class today we talked about 9/11 and how different people experienced it on that day.
Today in class we learned more about a message to Garcia. Today I learned that it was a very popular essay that it was made into a movie twice and that it was made into a book. The book sold over 40 million copies. I also learned that the quote "Take a message to Garcia" became a popular slang term. People in the military still use it today. Also the tallest mountain in the world in Alaska was named after president McKinley. We also learned some new vocabulary such as Slipshod and missive.
September 5, 2019 Today in Human Geography we read A message to Garcia. It was happening around the time of the war between Spain and the United States, they were fighting over Cuba. A message to Garcia is about how Garcia was hiding from president McKinley. Rowan was trying to find Garcia and successfully found Garcia after 3 weeks. Garcia died but there were more Garcia's. It was also talking about how people are very lazy and won't do their work and how there is punishments for slacking off and not getting any work done. There are so many people in our world today that do not do their work or sometimes slack off or even get distracted by something other then their work. This sums up my Human Geography class from today

The peak and the pit of my first day

Today I began my high school career at John Carroll. There was a lot of new things to learn about and a lot of new friends to meet. I liked how at lunch we got our freedom to sit basically anywhere we wanted too. I don't really like sitting up front in the classroom I prefer the middle of the classroom or the back I just don't like being too close to the board. I liked all of my teachers they were all very nice. I like having an off Mod because it gives me a chance to get some assignments done. I enjoyed meeting a lot of new people today and getting to know them in every class.
