Western Civilization day 1

Today in Western Civilization we went over rules and and met the new people in our class. We went over how to do a blog for Mr. Schick's class for the people who didn't know how to do it. We have to have a notebook by friday for this class but, Mr. Schick said I don't have get a new one because I can keep using the same one. We have a blog every night we have class. If we are sick we  still have to upload a blog. We also got our blogs set up and I finished mine in class which is great because now I don't have homework in this class. This wraps up Western Civilization class today.

Last day of Human Geography

Today was the last day of Human Geography and what we did in class today was watch jeopardy which was really fun because Mr. Schick would pause the video and give us each a chance to answer the question out loud. This year in Human Geography I learned so much in just half of the school year which os crazy. I hope that Western Civilization is just as fun as Human Geography was with Mr. Schick because I stay with Mr. Schick which I am very happy about. This is what happend in our last Human Geography class today.

Guns, Germs, and Steel test day

Today in human geography class we took our final test of the semester!! The test was on guns, germs, and steel. I feel like the test was pretty easy. I studied all last night to prepare for this test and I feel like it paid off because it was easy. I hope that my grade turns out good because of my test grade. Next semester I am still with Mr. Schick for western civilization which is good because I did not want to switch teachers. We only have one more day left of Human Geography and I hope that we do something fun to end it all on a good note. During the test we listened to mediation music which helped me focus on the test. This concludes human geo class today, which leaves only one more human geography blog left. :((

Guns, Germs, and Steel day 5

Today in Human Geography class we finally finished the video for guns, germs, and steel. I like the way the video ended because it first started out how they were hunter gatherers and then throughout the video it moved along and showed how their country grown and developed. After the video was over we went on the CIA world factbook and looked at Papua New Guinea to see how it has developed since the video was made. Their country had grown a lot in terms of resources. There was a lot of new food sources there. We ended class by looking at the volcano that had erupted in the Philippines. The volcano looked really serious and really scary to be around. This is what we did in Human Geography.

Guns, Germs, and Steel day 4

Today in Human Geography class we watched continued the video on guns, germs, and steel. We found out today that goats and sheep were the first animals to ever be domesticated in the ancient world. We also learned that there are only fourteen animals in the world that are successfully domesticated. Also that you are very lucky if you live near the fertile crescent because the land is very fertile there which is very good for farming. Jared Diamond was also explaining that most of how different parts of world get this good farming is because of geographic luck.

Guns, Germs, and Steel day 3

Today in human geography class we continued the video about guns, germs, and steel. We saw how new guineans hunted and gathered their food. They Would get most of their food from a sago tree by hacking out the inside of it. They would also grow a lot of wheat in the area that is right on the coast. In the video Jarred Diamond was still figuring out why everyone thought that white was the superior race. We also saw that sometimes they will eat spiders and crickets for food which is crazy to me because I would never eat a bug as a meal. This concludes Human Geography class today.

Guns, Germs, and Steel day 2

Today in Human Geography it was only a 40 minute period because we had a two hour delay. In class we continued the video on Guns, Germs, and Steel. We picked up at the part where Yali was asking the really important question. We saw today in the video how the New Guineans got there food from trees. The women would use an axe to cut the tree down and then break it open and get the inside out for them to eat. They get about 70 pounds of food from one tree but one downfall about that is that the food doesn't stay fresh for very long. We also discussed how the people of New Guinea won't move to a better place because they have no idea that they are almost the only people in the world still in stage one of the demographic transition. This pretty much wraps up class today.

Guns, Germs, and Steel day 1

Today in human geography we started a new topic called germs, guns, and steel. The first part of class we spent researching the topic while we saw what we got on the exam and why we got that grade on the exam. After we were done taking notes we started a video about Guns, Germs, and steel. The video is about a guy named Jared Diamond who traveled to New Guinea to research on birds. He found the people who live there and they were so confused why white was the superior race and why they were not equal with them. Jared did not like this idea so he wants to find a way to change it. That is about how far we got into the video which wraps up everything we did in class today.
